Sweet Sorghum has been selected as an alternative to sugar cane or maize as our crop of focus because it provides faster, higher returns on investment and is much more versatile.

IPT Sweet Sorghum Features: 

HIGHER BRIX OR SUGAR CONTENT: IPT Sweet Sorghum has higher levels in comparison to sugarcane;

COST EFFECTIVE: IPT Sweet Sorghum requires less water and fertilizer per crop that sugarcane therefore reducing overall costs;

EARLY MATURING: IPT Sweet Sorghum matures in approx one third of the time of sugarcane providing faster investment returns;

CONSISTENT YEAR ROUND HARVESTING: Three harvests per year, compared to one annual sugarcane harvest;

WIDE RANGE OF MARKETABLE QUALITIES: IPT Sweet Sorghum is the only crop that provides grain and stem that can be used for sugar, alcohol, syrup, jaggery, fodder, fuel, bedding, roofing, fencing, paper and chewing;

HARDINESS: IPT Sweet Sorghum is resistant to drought, floods and other extreme weather conditions, thriving under drier and warmer conditions which have historically been disastrous to similar crops in the past.

IPT are currently developing hybridised high yielding Sweet Sorghum strains for commercial applications in Asia, and are in discussions within Australia and internationally with sugar cane growing and bioethanol producers for the potential of IPT Sweet Sorghum as a sugar cane rotational crop and subsequent biofuel feedstock crop.

Harvesting

Sweet Sorghum stalks can be harvested within ten days after harvest of grains; the brix reading will vary from fourteen to twenty percent and juice content will be forhy eight to fifty percent.

Sweet sorghum stalks can be harvested without grains between eighty five to ninety days where the brix reading will be sixteen to twenty three percent and juice content will be fifty five to sixty percent.
